Necron Cryptothralls, Easy Repose

In this post I will be showing you how you can easily get a variety of poses out of your indomitus cryptothralls to help add some variation to them. This can help make them look just a little bit different without any real skill needed, and will look just a little bit better if you are running more than two.

Materials and Tools

For this guide you wont need anything special other than the regular set of two cryptothralls that you get in the indomitus set and your glues, clippers and anything that you like to use to clean up your models.

To help show you how I've made the first two cryptothralls exactly how they would following the instructions from the box. This will give us a good point of comparison when it comes to changing up the poses.

First Stage - Clipping and clean up.

The first stage is the same as if you were building them normally, clip and clean both cryptothralls and keep them in two neat separate piles. its important to keep them separate as you don't want to accidentally mix them up and cause unwanted confusion.

Second Stage - Business as Usual.

As the goal for this guide is to make sure it is as easy as possible we will be keeping the legs and torso assembly the exact same. This is because the pegs connecting these together are different depending on which cryptothrall you are building and it would take a lot of extra effort, removing pegs and making sure there is a secure contact point to make sure the legs would stick. We are still able to get a reasonable amount of variation by keeping the legs the same.

Its a similar story with the arms, you can choose either side, the left or right, and glue on a set of arms to the body. It wont matter which side you choose as long as it is the same for both.

Third Stage - Time to swap.

Now it is time to stray from the normal instructions. I've decided here to take the right side arms and swap them around, its simple but will help change the dynamics of the poses.

When gluing them in place be aware, you don't want to fill the holes with glue that the rods on the arms are meant to go in. They can be a bit tight and if filled with glue they can be pushed out of place while you are not looking. If this happens and they dry you will be left with one arm hanging out and it'll take a lot of work to correct. Instead I advise putting a thin layer of glue around the rim of the contact point as well as the little tab that connects to the carapace of the model.

I also decided to swap the heads around, one is closed while the other seems to be charging up a laser eye attack so I thought it would be nice to have it facing the other direction for this particular pose.

And with that they are complete. If you look at the legs and heads you can notice that they do start to look different, using this guide you can also swap the other set of arms and make another set of two cryptothralls. If you are feeling particularly brave you can also try swapping the legs between torsos, it is a lot more work but can be done with some careful clipping and a little bit of filler and pinning to make a solid joint.

I hope that you found this guide helpful and remember always test fit parts where you can. If not, send us a message and ill try and do it for you.
